Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)
UCI provides ROV services where manned intervention is either not possible or where there are operational and safety considerations. The ROV can be used for both inspection services and for performing work in a great many environments. Typical uses are in pipelines and tunnels, water towers, underwater search and investigation, power plant operations, locks, dams, structural inspection, and construction assistance.

Additional Equipment and Capabilities:
- A Merpro 4 function hydraulic manipulator can be installed on the ROV in different configurations depending on need. The 4 functions consist of: vertical lift up 15 degrees, down 45 degrees, horizontal swing 180 degrees, rotating wrist 360 degrees, and the opening and closing of the claw. The outer portion of the arm can be replaced with a 1" cable cutter that can swing horizontally and lift vertically, but must be mounted to accommodate the angle of the cable.
- A Mezotech MS 940 (675 khz) Imaging and Profiling Sonar. This is the low frequency telemetry version which allows the system to work through long cables. The range of the 675 khz head is 300 ft. The MS 940 is a Windows verion processor that allows easy storage of images and data. This feature allows placing these images into final reports. Measurements of distance, area, and angles can also be measured on screen.
- The Control Van is a modified 20 ft. steel shipping container with one 8 x 8 ft. air conditioned room for piloting and video recording. The other 8 x 12 ft. room is for storage and maintenance of the vehicle. The vehicle area has a hydraulic boom mounted on the ceiling that extends 12 ft. out the rear doors for deployment and retrieval of the ROV.
Optional Equipment
Cathodic Potential Probe with On-Screen Readings Video Ruler with Laser Scaling Acoustic Positioning Systems Client Selected Cameras - SIT, 3 Chip, Still, etc. 1000 Watt Ballasted HID Lights
A small observation ROV is also available for projects where the prime consideration is the size of the openings through which the ROV must manuver. Openings as small as 16" can be transited by this vehicle.
For clients who require internal inspection of very small diameter pipelines, track driven steerable crawlers are available with a variety of pan and tilt cameras or profiling sonar. These crawlers can travel long distances through pipelines as small as 4" in diameter while negotiating tight radius bends.
